ImpactAlpha, January 11 — San Francisco-based SilviaTerra started in 2010 to build a detailed forestland map of the U.S. to promote better forest management.

The firm is building the Natural Capital Exchange, a carbon marketplace to “connect corporate buyers with carbon credits generated from the world’s largest and smallest forest owners.”

Its seed funding round was co-led by Version One Ventures and Union Square Ventures. Salesforce’s Marc Benioff, former Nature Conservancy CEO Mark Tercek, Gratitude Railroad and others joined the round.

SilviaTerra is the first investment in Union Square’s new $162 million climate fund.
