Your role

As a Sustainable Finance Officer, you will report directly to the Manager of the Sustainable Finance Advisory team. In this role your focus will be on SDG10, Reducing Inequalities. You are expected to strengthen FMO’s strategic agenda by providing content knowledge, building a network of contacts, and offering deal support on social topics and in sustainable finance overall, with a particular focus on Energy investments You will also lead the launch and testing of practical financial and non-financial products.

Furthermore, you are responsible for:

• Supporting the institutionalization of FMO’s Reducing Inequalities label approach and provide expert guidance for FMO’s investment departments and clients, in particular in the energy sector.

• Advising on impact structuring, innovation, and transactions on social, themes and sustainable finance topics such as gender lens investing, social entrepreneurship, inclusive business, financial inclusion, gender and social bonds and credit lines, access to basic goods and services etc.

• Supporting transactions, sector initiatives and partnerships across different FMO departments and focus sectors in social topics.

• Conceptualizing, designing, and incubating new financial and non-financial products and services that can be offered to FMO’s investment clients.

• Supporting organisational change projects, managing different internal stakeholders, and providing technical leadership and direction.

• Engaging with FMO partners and key stakeholders and representing FMO at impact focused events.

• You will also have an important role in educating motivating and working with colleagues across several departments.

Our offer

  • Gross yearly salary of between EUR 70K – 90K (including holiday allowance and 13th month salary), depending on seniority, years of experience and background.

Your team

The Sustainable Finance Advisory team is together with the Programmatic Technical Assistance team and the Technical Assistance team part of the Impact department.

The Sustainable Finance Advisory team supports our four investment departments – Agriculture Food and Water, Energy, Financial Institutions, and Private Equity. The team’s collective expertise covers SDG10 related topics such as gender, inclusive business, digital inclusion, smallholder finance, etc. And SDG 13 such as green and climate finance, climate risk and adaptation, biodiversity and natural capital, circular economy, etc. Each member brings unique skills in sustainability and impact areas important to FMO.

Your background

  • Master’s degree in Development Economics, Business, Finance, International Development, or other comparable studies around sustainability with a focus on private sector development or financing
  • Over 10 years of working experience, out of which at least five years in finance and/or impact investing in emerging markets.
  • Proven experience (five years) in sourcing, structuring, designing, and executing development finance products and investments, and affinity with impact measurement.
  • Experience with impact measurement, accounting and reporting is an advantage.
    Ability to identify impactful projects and assess high-level financial viability and project feasibility.
  • Strong content knowledge of impact concepts and international conventions.
  • Working experience and exposure to preferably the Energy sector.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluent in English both written and verbally, an additional language is an advantage.
