The New York private equity firm Energy Impact Partners will offer secured and unsecured loans to the small and mid-sized businesses in its portfolio.
EIP has primarily made equity investments in growth-stage energy technologies and services.
The firm, founded by energy veterans Hans Kobler and Steven Helleman, launched its first fund in 2015 (with a $10 million minimum).
It partners with utility companies like Southern Company, Avista, and Fortis, to invest in companies that “optimize energy consumption and improve sustainable energy generation.” I
ts portfolio companies include Sense Labs, which makes home energy consumption monitors, and AutoGrid Systems, a data and analytics firm for utilities.
“Now we have a lending group to support later-stage firms trying to facilitate growth,” Kobler said in a statement.
