The New York private equity firm Energy Impact Partners will offer secured and unsecured loans to the small and mid-sized businesses in its portfolio.

EIP has primarily made equity investments in growth-stage energy technologies and services.

The firm, founded by energy veterans Hans Kobler and Steven Helleman, launched its first fund in 2015 (with a $10 million minimum).

It partners with utility companies like Southern Company, Avista, and Fortis, to invest in companies that “optimize energy consumption and improve sustainable energy generation.”

Its portfolio companies include Sense Labs, which makes home energy consumption monitors, and AutoGrid Systems, a data and analytics firm for utilities.

“Now we have a lending group to support later-stage firms trying to facilitate growth,” Kobler said in a statement.
