About this Role

The Sustainable Investments Associate Investment Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing CalPERS’ climate-focused strategies within the private markets portfolio. This position requires collaboration with investment managers to support underwriting processes for climate-centric funds and investments. The role includes mapping climate solution investments across private asset classes and tracking the portfolio’s climatic initiatives to align with CalPERS’s sustainability objectives. This position allows for a hybrid work arrangement with both remote and in-office workdays.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Investment Director and/or private asset class Investment Manager(s) in the underwriting process for energy transition focused funds and/or climate solutions co-investments.
  • Map the private climate solutions investment landscape across relevant asset classes.
  • Monitor market developments, emerging sectors, and evolving manager strategies.
  • Contribute to CalPERS climate and performance goals accountability and transparency efforts by supporting the tracking, measurement, and reporting of the private markets portfolio’s climate solutions exposure.

Requirements

  • Advanced Business or Finance degree.
  • CFA designation is a strong complement.
  • Deep experience in private markets including fund investments, co-investments, and direct investments.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, DCF analysis, project finance, and portfolio valuation.
  • Demonstrated ability in stakeholder management and mentoring junior investment professionals.
