About this Role

The Senior Portfolio Manager at NeighborWorks Capital plays a pivotal role in managing the organization’s active loan portfolio which includes complex and higher risk loans. This position requires independent management from loan boarding to repayment, overseeing loan monitoring, draw processing, and analyzing requests for extensions and modifications. The role is integral in identifying potential risks and implementing strategies to mitigate them, recommending updates to risk ratings as necessary. The Senior Portfolio Manager is tasked with analyzing issues, proposing solutions, and undertaking leadership in monitoring Permanent loans by assessing rent rolls, property financials, and budgets. The position involves developing procedures to monitor, assess, and report on portfolio performance, using collected data to understand trends and derive insights. Collaboration with NeighborWorks Capital’s Lending and Finance teams is essential, including maintaining systems related to the portfolio and communicating effectively with borrowers to stay informed about project progress and potential issues. Travel to Silver Spring, MD may occasionally be required for staff meetings and events.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze quarterly financial reports and project status updates from borrowers, identifying early warning signs of trouble.
  • Perform annual reviews on each loan and recommend risk ratings.
  • Maintain a database of monitoring information, loan specifics, payment statuses, and risk analyses.
  • Review loan modification and extension requests, submit memos to the Director, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Manage and compile disbursement requests, including construction draws and revolving lines of credit.
  • Monitor compliance with risk management policies and potential risks to the portfolio.
  • Identify problem loans and propose resolution strategies.
  • Visit customers and review third-party site inspections as needed.
  • Present reports on credit quality and loan issues to senior leadership and loan committees.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics, or accounting; advanced degree in a relevant field is a plus.
  • At least 5 years of relevant portfolio management experience, preferably in multi-family housing or commercial real estate.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Occasional travel within U.S. required (10-15%).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs and internet use.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
