About this Role
The Investment Manager will play a crucial role in identifying and managing investment opportunities within East Africa. Based in Nairobi, this position focuses on investing in Kenyan, Ethiopian, Ugandan, Rwandan, and Tanzanian markets. The successful candidate will be a part of AgDevCo Ventures, a new investment vehicle under AgDevCo aimed to launch significant efforts in the region. Candidates will be responsible for originating investment opportunities, conducting due diligence, and developing investment proposals. The role also includes portfolio management and operational support, contributing to the organization’s strategic objectives and financial targets.
Responsibilities
- Help originate investment opportunities in East Africa.
- Conduct due diligence and develop investment proposals.
- Manage a portfolio of mezzanine agribusiness investments.
- Negotiate and appraise new investment opportunities.
- Oversee legal execution of transactions with internal and/or external legal counsel.
- Monitor and evaluate investment performance against key targets.
- Provide investee support and technical assistance.
- Contribute to quarterly portfolio reporting to AV’s Investment Committee/Board.
- Manage day-to-day activities and overall financial performance of AV.
- Participate in budget setting and external reporting.
Requirements
- Minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in relevant investment roles.
- Experience in African markets, preferably with agribusiness exposure.
- Strong analytical, finance, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent financial modeling skills, including equity valuation models.
- Proficiency in oral and written communication.
- Ability to manage strategic relationships with stakeholders.
- Understanding of donor funding and development priorities in Africa.
