About this Role
The ESG Manager at Acumen will be responsible for a diverse range of activities in support of managing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies relevant to Acumen’s off-grid energy initiatives. Working within the Legal team, your focus will be on ensuring the effective application and monitoring of ESG standards across Acumen’s investment portfolio. You will actively engage in ESG due diligence processes, collaborate with investment teams, and enhance stakeholder engagement to foster investment strategies that are in line with evolving ESG protocols. In this role, you will work closely with international and institutional funders of Acumen’s initiatives, providing expert guidance on ESG compliance, monitoring climate risks, and synthesizing complex data into actionable insights. Your position will also entail developing new resources, frameworks, and policies to align Acumen’s ESG activities with industry regulations in regions such as the US, UK, and EU.
Responsibilities
- Manage ESG policies and procedures for renewable energy initiatives.
- Conduct ESG due diligence and support related transactions.
- Develop and implement Environmental and Social Action Plans.
- Monitor environmental and social impact assessment processes.
- Provide climate risk and vulnerability analysis for investments.
- Facilitate ESG monitoring and reporting across funds.
- Design and implement ESG policies for West African investments.
- Co-create resources such as trainings and templates for ESG activities.
- Report on ESG regulations and provide implementation recommendations.
- Synthesize ESG data into clear, actionable insights.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in ESG investing or sustainable finance.
- Experience with renewable energy and off-grid solar companies in Africa.
- Bachelor’s degree focused on social enterprise or sustainable finance.
- Strong understanding of ESG policies, standards, and metrics.
- Proficient in managing data, processes, and efficient system setups.
- Excellent research, analysis, and presentation skills.
- Commitment to Acumen’s mission and values.
- Authorized to work in Nigeria.
