About this Role

As a Data Scientist at Pacific Community Ventures, you will join a mission-driven lender committed to investing in diverse small businesses across California. The role involves advancing PCV’s data practices to establish new standards in the CDFI ecosystem, notably in machine learning and AI innovations. These advancements are aimed at expanding access to capital, advising, and employment in underserved communities. This position reports to the Principal Researcher/Chief Data Officer and offers the opportunity to enhance data infrastructure and innovation through PCV’s Data Hub initiative. The role entails supporting research capabilities and fostering a culture of ethical data use. You will be part of a dynamic team driving transformation in data management and governance practices, aligning with industry standards and PCV’s goals.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Good Jobs Innovation Lab to create and implement a unique Research Agenda.
  • Mentor lab staff and assist in research projects to enhance statistical and machine learning knowledge.
  • Design innovative research projects, overseeing data collection to the delivery of results.
  • Publish research advancing the use of data in the CDFI and economic mobility arenas.
  • Conduct a review of data culture, assessing practices and governance at PCV.
  • Develop and implement data governance best practices.
  • Manage Data Science projects involving machine learning, AI, and statistical capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Data Science, Statistics, or related fields.
  • Over 5 years of Data Scientist experience, focusing on research-oriented roles involving ML.
  • Proficient in Python and machine learning frameworks like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
  • Experience with data policy, governance best practices, and deploying models on cloud platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to using technology for social good.
