About this Role
As an Associate in the Sustainable Energies Group, you will play a pivotal role in managing and expanding CPP Investments’ portfolio in the dynamic energy sector. Your work will involve conducting in-depth investment research and analysis to support the execution of new investment opportunities, primarily in North America. You will develop financial models, perform industry and market analyses, and prepare well-rounded investment recommendations. Additionally, you will engage with industry participants and build partnerships vital to executing CPP Investments’ sustainable energy strategy. The Sustainable Energies Group represents a convergence of expertise in renewable and conventional energy investments. With substantial assets under management, the group is positioned as a leader in the global energy market, focusing on both maintaining competitiveness in established energy sectors and paving the way for new investments in low-carbon technologies.
Responsibilities
- Support the execution of new investment opportunities with a focus in North America.
- Support asset management activities for existing investments.
- Compile industry, market, and asset-level data and financial information to support research.
- Build and leverage relationships with industry participants and management teams.
- Perform fundamental research and present research ideas to broader group.
- Conduct due diligence on opportunities to determine investment merits and risks.
- Develop financial models and perform valuation analyses.
- Conduct statistical analyses to support investment decisions.
- Prepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations.
- Participate in investment presentations to the Investment Committee and Board.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree or college diploma in a relevant field.
- An advanced degree or certification (CFA) is an asset.
- 2-4 years of relevant work experience.
- Strong research, analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in deal environments, supporting acquisitions, diligence, and/or asset management.
- Advanced computer/technical skills in MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
