About this Role
The Specialist, Sustainable Finance will spearhead high-impact interventions across Africa’s capital markets, focusing on sustainable finance transactions and capital mobilization. The role involves advancing sustainable finance in the region by promoting thematic bonds and comprehensive market-shaping initiatives. The Specialist will translate strategy into actionable projects, support program design, and contribute to market transformation efforts. Key activities include developing financial strategies, leading project implementation, and liaising with key stakeholders to deepen capital markets and enhance financial resilience. This position demands a strategic thinker, adept with sustainable finance instruments, and committed to fostering market innovation for sustainable economic growth in Africa.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the development of strategy and programs for the Capital Markets pillar.
- Lead research into green and sustainable finance to foster a deep understanding of Africa’s financial systems.
- Provide thought leadership on private sector thematic bonds, addressing market barriers and opportunities.
- Develop and oversee a portfolio of projects in sustainable finance, aligning with FCDO strategy and FSD Africa goals.
- Conceptualize and design investment proposals, implementing project frameworks.
- Lead private sector thematic bond transactions, coordinating with various partners to progress transactions.
- Deliver technical training on sustainable finance instruments for sector participants.
- Manage finances associated with Capital Markets Pillar, ensuring optimal impact and donor compliance.
- Drive market transformation through effective communication, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement.
- Support Principal Sustainable Finance in engaging and empowering implementing partners.
Requirements
- Master’s degree with 9 years’ experience or bachelor’s degree with 11 years’ experience in financial markets.
- Proficiency in green and sustainable finance market building and transactions.
- Demonstrable experience in transaction support for thematic bonds and blended finance.
- Proven track record in managing complex projects and relationships at a senior level.
- Skilled in research analysis with an understanding of development finance and impact.
