About this Role
The Project Director at Cubico Sustainable Investments will play a crucial role in the company’s Mexican business, being responsible for driving projects from late-stage development through to Commercial Operation Date (COD). The role requires active collaboration with development, legal, and commercial teams to ensure projects achieve Notice to Proceed (NTP), followed by comprehensive management of the construction phase. The Project Director will be a part of a dynamic team, navigating complex negotiation environments, and delivering projects on time and within budget. Effective communication and strong negotiation skills are essential for this role, as the successful candidate will have to manage and optimize the development and construction phases. The candidate will bring extensive experience in utility-scale renewable energy projects, contributing to the planning, commercial structuring, and implementation phases, with an understanding of project finance principles beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Manage the entire preconstruction phase from late-stage development to notice to proceed status for Mexican projects.
- Act as a core member of a multidisciplinary project delivery team to commercialize projects.
- Lead the tendering process and support negotiations for EPC, BOP, Owners Engineer, and equipment supply contracts.
- Identify project risks and opportunities and develop action plans.
- Ensure optimal solutions through collaborations with technical and engineering teams.
- Evaluate new project opportunities with the local development team.
- Lead and supervise projects from pre-construction through to a successful transition into operations.
- Ensure project controls and governance processes are implemented effectively.
- Chair monthly Steering Committees and prepare required reporting.
Requirements
- Degree-level qualification in engineering or similar technical discipline with at least 7 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrable experience in the pre-construction and construction phases of Solar PV and Wind Projects.
- Proven leadership experience and formal project management training/certification is beneficial.
- Proficient in handling technical and commercial challenges in renewable energy projects.
- Strong commercial and contractual acumen with experience in negotiating utility-scale project contracts.
- Understanding of Mexican grid connection processes and consenting requirements.
- Ability to work independently, remotely, and collaboratively.
- Fluent in Spanish and upper-intermediate level in English.
