About this Role

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation is seeking an Investment Managing Director to play a leadership role in its Investment Team. The team is responsible for managing the Foundation’s endowment to ensure funds are available for future grants and operations. The Investment Managing Director will work collaboratively across various asset classes and investment strategies, focusing particularly on the equity allocation of the portfolio, which encompasses both public and private equities. This role involves developing and implementing asset allocation strategies, selecting and monitoring external investment accounts, and contributing to overall portfolio decisions. In addition to investment management duties, the position requires close collaboration with other departments within the Foundation, including finance and legal teams. The role involves business travel up to 33% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic vision and insight that enhances portfolio returns and manages risk.
  • Develop recommendations and reports for the Chief Investment Officer and the Investment Committee.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis on market opportunities and risks.
  • Evaluate external investment management organizations.
  • Conduct ongoing due diligence and monitor investments.
  • Review legal documents, financial statements, and manager reports.
  • Assist with administrative activities related to investments.
  • Help design and implement efficient systems for data-driven decision making.
  • Manage and develop other team members.

Requirements

  • MBA or Master’s degree in a related field or a CFA charter.
  • Minimum of fifteen years of practical experience in an investment-related field.
  • Experience with asset allocation and manager selection in a multi-manager portfolio or as a portfolio manager or analyst in equity investment strategies.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools and portfolio analytics software is preferred.
