About this Role
Symbiotics is seeking an astute Financial Institutions Associate to bolster its investment analysis team in the Sub-Saharan Africa region. Stationed in Cape Town, the successful candidate will be instrumental in assessing and monitoring credit and country risks associated with regional institutions, thereby contributing to the strategic investment decisions. This role involves rigorous collaboration with investment analysts and supports various facets of report production and data maintenance, ensuring that all operations align with the regulatory compliance and risk management protocols. A robust interest in impact investments and knowledge of the African financial sector is advantageous for this opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Assist in coordinating and managing investee relationships with the Investment Analysts.
- Support Investment Analysts in the production of country analysis reports.
- Support the production of credit and social risk reports by Investment Analysts.
- Maintain all institutional accounts and KYC/AML processes up to date for Sub Saharan institutions.
- Collect and manage data required for MFI Account opening and KYC processes.
- Input audited financial statements and liability information for all investees in the region.
- Analyze and validate monthly reports with the Analyst’s assistance and publish follow-up reports as needed.
- Maintain regular communication with investees via email or telephone.
- Support Desk Reviews production by gathering necessary information and ensuring its completeness.
- Assist Investment Analysts in prospecting new investment targets in existing and prospective markets.
- Aid the Regional Manager in compiling quarterly market outlook and annual board reports.
- Conduct market research, data & performance analysis, and develop presentations as needed for the Regional Manager.
Requirements
- University degree in a finance-related field.
- Strong interest in impact investments.
- Knowledge of the microfinance & financial sector in Africa is a strong asset.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks daily.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Strong aptitude for understanding and supporting clients’ needs.
- Fluent in English; proficiency in French and/or Portuguese is valued.
- Possession of a valid work permit for South Africa.
