About this Role
The Carbon Finance Associate will sit in The Nature Conservancy’s Impact Finance and Markets Division, working within the Global Carbon Markets team to lead project finance activities for Natural Climate Solutions (NCS). This position offers a temporary two-year term with the potential for extension based on performance and funding availability. The associate will collaborate with various stakeholders, including local business units and external actors, to enhance the quality of TNC’s NCS carbon project portfolio. Key areas of focus include supporting financial modeling, equitable benefit sharing arrangements, and coordinating impact investment opportunities. The role involves building financial models, carrying out viability assessments for NCS projects, and developing strategic frameworks for community compensation mechanisms, aligned with the organization’s mission to drive sustainable conservation initiatives globally.
Responsibilities
- Develop financial models and financial viability assessments for NCS carbon projects.
- Support the Global Carbon Markets technical team with feasibility studies and project design documentation.
- Develop FP&A tools for the Carbon Markets Team, TNC business units, and project partners.
- Support the development of equitable benefit sharing arrangements at the project level.
- Design fair and inclusive profit-sharing mechanisms, community compensation, and incentive payment schemes.
- Stay updated on trends in carbon markets, including carbon credit prices and emerging investment opportunities.
- Travel and work flexible hours as needed.
- Act independently within broad program goals to prioritize tasks and solve problems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field and 4 years’ related experience.
- Experience in project finance, with advanced financial modeling skills.
- Strong critical thinking, research, and analysis skills.
- Fluency in English with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Familiarity with carbon market standards and experience working on NCS carbon project development is appreciated.
- Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience.
