About the fund
The Spark+ Africa Fund is a pioneering impact investment fund dedicated to advancing clean and modern cooking energy solutions in sub-Saharan Africa, where hundreds of millions of households still rely on traditional, polluting fuels such as firewood, charcoal, and kerosene. It is widely recognized as the world’s first impact fund focused exclusively on distributed clean cooking energy, targeting scalable companies that provide healthier, more efficient, and climate-friendly alternatives spanning electric, LPG, biofuels, advanced biomass, and other modern technologies. The fund deploys debt, mezzanine, and in some cases equity capital to ventures across the clean cooking value chain, including manufacturers, distributors, fuel utilities, microfinance intermediaries, and related service providers, typically with growth-stage traction. The fund was developed by Enabling Qapital and Stichting Modern Cooking, with foundational support from the Clean Cooking Alliance and catalytic capital from development finance institutions, foundations, pension funds, and family offices. With an AUM of approximately USD 64 million, Spark+ combines financial returns with strong social, health, environmental, and gender-equity impact by reducing indoor air pollution, cutting emissions, and improving livelihoods across the region.
