About the fund
The Green Catalytic Fund is a blended finance vehicle operating across Latin America and the Caribbean with a focus on climate-positive investments. Backed by the Green Climate Fund, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), IDB Lab, Bayer Foundation, and Coca-Cola, the fund targets business models that simultaneously reduce carbon emissions and protect natural capital.
The fund's multi-faceted strategy combines direct investment with capacity building for local organizations while developing innovative blended finance mechanisms. Rather than relying on loans that perpetuate indebtedness, it strengthens financial intermediaries through grants called non-reimbursable technical cooperation operations (NRTCs), providing foundational contributions up to $500,000 to intermediaries in the Amazon basin. The fund focuses on high-impact sectors including regenerative agriculture, non-timber forest products, and clean technologies, with the goal of strengthening over 120 business models and technologies.
Gender inclusion and justice principles are integrated throughout the fund's investment process, with a target of at least 40% of total initiatives supported being led or co-led by women. This approach makes the fund suitable for development finance institutions, foundations, and institutional investors seeking environmental impact alongside financial returns in the region. The fund is actively raising capital to expand its impact across Latin America and the Amazon basin.
