The Green Climate Fund was created within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to channel climate finance to developing countries. With a portfolio exceeding $13.5 billion in direct commitments (and $51.9 billion including co-financing as of late 2023), GCF focuses on projects and programs that foster resilient, low-emission development. It operates through periodic replenishments with contributions from dozens of countries and works as the central pillar of the international climate finance architecture. Governance is by a Board of 24, and it is managed independently from headquarters in South Korea.
