About the fund
EFM Fund IV is a purpose-driven investment vehicle targeting climate-smart forestland in the United States. Managed by Ecotrust Forest Management (EFM), the fund seeks to mobilize approximately US$300 million to acquire and transition working forests into high-impact natural climate solutions. Its strategy layers traditional timber-revenue models with diversified income streams such as carbon credits, conservation easements, and enhanced biodiversity initiatives. The fund’s inaugural deal—a 68,000-acre tract on Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula—illustrates its approach: the forest was formerly industrially managed, but under Fund IV it will be certified to FSC standards and managed for extended rotation, selective harvesting, and ecosystem restoration. Key aims include sequestering millions of tons of CO₂, elevating the standards for improved forest management (IFM) projects, delivering measurable environmental and community benefits, and generating long-term value for investors aligned with both sustainability and return objectives.
