One Acre Fund operates as one of Africa’s largest nonprofit agricultural investment vehicles, supplying over 1.6 million farming families across nine countries with critical financing for seed and fertilizer, agricultural training, crop insurance, and market linkages. Their model combines flexible, affordable loans and pay-as-you-go distribution to serve the most remote and vulnerable smallholder farmers—over 70% of whom live on less than $1 per day. Innovative capital structures, including catalytic loans from anchor investors such as MacArthur Foundation, enable the nonprofit to scale efficiently while maintaining a 95% repayment rate. One Acre Fund’s approach yields a 30–40% increase in supported farm profits annually, empowering families to break cycles of hunger, build assets, and invest in health and education.
