About this Role
The Investment Officer position in the Cotonou, Benin office plays a significant role in driving impactful private sector Manufacturing and Services investments in Benin and across West Africa. This role involves advancing IFC’s strategic priorities, involving a variety of corporate and project finance activities. The professional will be responsible for investment origination and processing, relationship management, strategy formulation, and knowledge dissemination. Reporting to the World Bank Group Country Manager and MAS Manufacturing/Services West Africa Managers, the Investment Officer will engage in financial transactions, conduct financial modeling, and credit analysis. The role requires attending workshops, managing existing investment portfolios, fostering client relationships, providing industry insights, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet sustainability and impact objectives.
Responsibilities
- Proactively identify potential investment partners and opportunities.
- Lead/participate in structuring, negotiation, and execution of financial transactions.
- Conduct comprehensive financial modeling, credit analysis, and due diligence.
- Monitor and supervise existing investment portfolios.
- Build and maintain relationships with private sector clients, financial institutions, and government agencies.
- Provide industry insights and market intelligence on MAS sectors.
- Collaborate with ESG and Gender specialists.
- Drive business development efforts by engaging with potential clients.
- Prepare high-quality investment proposals and reports.
- Mentor and support junior team members.
- Represent the WBG/IFC when necessary.
- Provide in-country support and follow-up to IFC visiting missions.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- MBA or Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or Business Management.
- At least 8 years of professional experience in finance, investment banking, structured finance, or corporate finance.
- Experience in executing investment transactions and developing client relationships.
- Ability to assess investment opportunities with a focus on credit quality and development impact.
- Strong business judgment to identify potential business partners.
- Excellent financial, modeling, equity, and credit skills.
- Strong client relationship skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proven ability to work independently under pressure.
- Willingness to travel extensively.
- Excellent communication skills in English and French.
