About this Role

The Associate Agribusiness, Food & Forestry (AFRICA) at FMO will be instrumental in enhancing the bank’s investment portfolio in the agribusiness sector with a particular focus on Africa. This role involves not only managing client portfolios but also engaging in new transactions. The associate will work under the guidance of the Manager Africa and collaborate closely with the Agribusiness, Food & Forestry department, which plays a key role in contributing to food security by supporting sustainable value chains. Within this role, an associate will conduct due diligence, financial analysis, and portfolio management activities while also preparing credit reviews and investment proposals. The ideal candidate will have a dynamic role where their analytical capabilities, relationship-building skills, and passion for impact investing will be crucial.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring: Preparation of credit reviews including market and financial analysis.
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant people in the investee company.
  • Drafting of disbursement memos and change requests.
  • Conducting client monitoring visits as necessary.
  • Support in originating and executing new deals: Preparing investment proposals, undertaking analysis, and discussions with internal staff and clients.
  • Conduct market research relevant to the agri sector.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as compliance and reporting for file completion.
  • Plan and execute due diligence visits.
  • Excel financial modeling to prepare projections.
  • Analyze financial data including ratios and budgets.
  • Engage in legal contracting.
  • Participate in internal project teams as necessary.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree – preferably in finance, business administration, engineering, or economics.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in financial services (banking/private equity).
  • Experience in credit analysis and execution of debt transactions in emerging markets.
  • Knowledge of Africa and/or development finance is a plus.
  • Knowledge and affinity with the agribusiness sector including ESG topics.
  • Strong financial and ESG risk awareness while being service/client-oriented.
