About this Role
The Sustainable Investments (SI) team at CalPERS is seeking a dedicated Associate Investment Manager to contribute significantly to the organization’s commitment to climate solutions through the private markets portfolio. The role involves active participation in the underwriting process for energy transition-focused funds and climate solution co-investments. In this position, you will also contribute to mapping the private climate solutions investment landscape, maintaining a keen watch on market developments and manager strategies. Additionally, you will be accountable for supporting climate and performance goals related to transparency and reporting within the private markets portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Support the Investment Director and/or private asset class Investment Manager(s) in the underwriting process for energy transition focused funds and/or climate solutions co-investments.
- Map the private climate solutions investment landscape across relevant asset classes.
- Monitor market developments, emerging sectors and evolving manager strategies.
- Contribute to CalPERS climate and performance goals accountability and transparency efforts by supporting tracking, measurement and reporting of the portfolio’s climate solutions exposure.
Requirements
- Advanced Business or Finance degree.
- CFA designation is a strong complement.
- Extensive experience with private market transactions, including fund investments, co-investments, or direct investments.
- Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, DCF analysis, project finance and/or portfolio valuation.
- Demonstrated ability in stakeholder management and mentoring junior investment professionals.
