Agrifood tech. India-based Aavishkaar Capital invested in Africa’s supply chain… Waterpoint Lane backed Heritable Agriculture to make food and tree crops more resilient.
Energy transition. Houston-based renewable energy producer Catalyze secured a $200 million line of credit from Deutsche Bank to speed clean energy acquisitions and projects… MassMutual Catalyst Fund, Boston Impact Initiative and Raven Indigenous Capital Partners are among the investors in the $9.5 million seed round of Florrent, which improves power quality and grid reliability using supercapacitors, or short-term energy storage devices… UK-based Mopo raised £5 million ($6.8 million) from Norway’s development finance institution Norfund to offer its solar + battery home and business power systems in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Chad and other African markets.
Financial inclusion. Accion Ventures secured $61 million for inclusive fintech ventures… Digitt raised $10 million to expand fair credit access for Mexico’s middle class… Kin raised $250 million in equity and debt for direct-to-consumer homeowners insurance… Platcorp Holdings, a small business lender focused on East and Southern Africa, secured a $10 million loan from Swedfund and a guarantee from the EDFI Management Company.
Fund news. Enduring Planet secured catalytic guarantee from Locus to derisk its second climate fund… Green Investments Partnership, a blended finance vehicle under Singapore’s Financing Asia’s Transition Partnership initiative, closed $510 million from investors including Export Finance Australia, International Finance Corp., HSBC, Temasek, British International Investment, Bank of the Philippine Islands and Allied Climate Partners… ResponsAbility surpassed $400 million for Asia climate fund with IFC investment… The Asc Impact Forestry Fund, an investor in sustainable land and forestry management in Africa, secured an undisclosed investment from K+S, a German chemical company.
Fusion energy. Germany’s Proxima Fusion scored an additional €15 million ($17.5 million) for its Series A round from CDP Venture Capital, the European Innovation Council Fund and other backers, as it races to commercialize its stellarator fusion system.
Impact M&A. Geneva-based Lombard Odier Investment Managers is acquiring Dutch ESG-focused Ownership Capital, bringing its sustainable assets under management to $15.3 billion… New Forests’ African forestry fund acquired South Africa’s Rance Timber.
Institutional impact. Canadian pension fund administrator La Caisse and Australian climate investor Clean Energy Finance Corporation invested A$250 million (US$165 million) to launch an agricultural platform for high-quality Australian carbon credits.
Investing in health. Copenhagen-based Teton.AI clinched $20 million in Series A financing from Plural, Bertelsmann and others to help US hospitals and caregivers monitor aging seniors with AI and computer vision tools.
Low-carbon transition. Netflix has signed a 15-year agreement with the American Forest Foundation to purchase carbon credits via the foundation’s Fields & Forests program.
Mandates: Under a new investment policy, UK-based nonprofit UnLtd is changing the way its £100 million ($136 million) endowment Millennium Awards Trust is managed.
Waste to value. Dallas-based MCatalysis secured seed financing, in a round led by HL Energy Ventures, to upcycle waste resources, such as plastic and agricultural waste, into low-cost and clean synthetic fuels and chemicals… Nitricity, a San Francisco-based company that makes organic fertilizer from recycled almond shells, raised $50 million in a Series B round led by World Fund and Khosla Ventures.
