About this Role

As a Senior Specialist in Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) at South Pole, you will be at the forefront of developing and implementing sustainability projects that contribute to combating climate change. Your role involves providing technical expertise in carbon asset development, focusing on the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) and domestic compliance markets such as the Australian ACCU Scheme. You will be responsible for leading feasibility assessments and conducting carbon stock modeling using tools like FullCAM, ensuring alignment with international standards. The position requires a deep understanding of forestry systems and land management practices, including reforestation, avoided deforestation, and managed timberlands. You will also offer strategic guidance on methodological shifts in the market and collaborate with different teams to integrate advanced monitoring tools into project lifecycles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead feasibility assessments and technical design for NbS projects.
  • Conduct carbon stock modeling and sequestration estimates using FullCAM.
  • Provide guidance on forestry systems to meet certification requirements.
  • Track and analyze methodological shifts in VCM and ACCU Scheme.
  • Manage advisory mandates and deliver technical reports for clients.
  • Collaborate with GIS and Remote Sensing teams on project monitoring.
  • Work with Finance and Deal Structuring teams for financial model inputs.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Geography, Biology, or Climate Policy.
  • Proven experience in forestry systems and land management.
  • Proficiency in carbon accounting models and familiarity with GIS tools.
  • Knowledge of NbS for certified carbon credit generation and jurisdictional standards.
  • Excellent communication skills for technical information conveyance.
