About this Role

At Google DeepMind, we’re seeking a Portfolio Lead for our Sustainability team. This is an opportunity to leverage the power of AI to drive impactful solutions within the sustainability domain. As part of the AI for Sustainability effort, you’ll work closely with a dynamic group that collaborates across Google DeepMind, Alphabet, and external partners. Your primary role will be to develop and manage a portfolio that advances sustainability initiatives by identifying opportunities where DeepMind’s technology can address real-world problems. You will be integral in shaping the strategies and ensuring the objectives of each project are met. This role will allow you to engage with scientists and engineers to drive projects towards successful outcomes while building and maintaining external relationships in the sustainability space.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to apply Google DeepMind technology to solve sustainability-related problems.
  • Motivate and engage cross-functional teams to work on AI applications related to sustainability.
  • Drive a portfolio of projects, defining objectives and strategies to achieve results.
  • Scope, prototype, and launch solutions to ensure wide adoption and equal access.
  • Build and manage relationships within the sustainability ecosystem.
  • Ensure continuous success and structural evaluation of programs, intervening when necessary.
  • Oversee budgets and resource management in collaboration with the program manager.

Requirements

  • Experience driving sizeable AI application programs from inception to delivery.
  • Professional or academic background in sustainability areas such as climate or biodiversity.
  • Strong ability to engage with researchers and engineers on AI technologies.
  • Experience in program and product management, particularly in crafting strategic roadmaps.
  • High ethical standards in decision making and communication.
  • Proven management skills with diverse teams and partners.
  • Excellent communication skills to work with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Passionate about DeepMind’s mission and knowledgeable about AI’s potential impact.
