IMCO is looking for a highly motivated Director, Investment Applications (Private) to join our team!
As a key member of our Information Technology team, the Director, Investment Applications (Private) will work closely with the VP, Front Office Technology, IT teams and business leaders in the Front Office Private Markets Asset class (Private Markets, Infrastructure and Real Estate) in designing and implementing scalable solutions across the business. The role will be responsible for understanding corporate objectives, anticipating the needs of investment stakeholders, managing team capacity to align with upcoming business needs, and overseeing overall technology development, solution delivery and operational support. More specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for the integration, utilization and optimization of new Private Markets technology solution (Chronograph), including the build out of its steady state usage. This incumbent will facilitate and influence strategic discussions with senior business stakeholders across the designated investment organization, applying forethought of the target state and in the design of support activities. The overarching responsibility is to deliver value-added solutions while ensuring adherence to IMCO’s policies, processes, procedures, and overall supportability of all applications. As an experienced technology leader, the position will be responsible for creating frameworks and provide oversight of business systems analysis and technical solution delivery strategies.
As a Member of Our Team You Will be Responsible For:
- Lead a business systems solution team through systems implementations, enhancements, and systems upgrades, to support Corporate Initiatives and strategies.
- Utilize a deep understanding of Private Markets asset class activities, act as a trusted partner and technical advisor to senior investment stakeholders, operation teams, and vendors. Understand current and evolving business needs.
- Oversee complex project initiatives for investment system solutions to support investment, operations, risk, and other IT-related functions.
- Contribute to the development of the IT strategic roadmap and team objectives in collaboration with the IT senior leadership team.
- Create thoughtful talent strategies that support longer term needs of the team. Create a culture that attracts and develops staff to maximize performance and efficiency.
- Create and support a culture that continuously elevates service levels with all business users. Ensure stakeholders concerns are resolved through engagement and transparency.
- Foster an environment that promotes innovation and continuous improvement. Coach and mentor team to develop their full potential. Engage team members at all levels on solution design and execution.
- Be able to deliver in both waterfall and agile methodologies and propose a hybrid approach as needed for the organization.
- Support the standardization of IMCO’s business systems analysis methodology to ensure consistency across all delivery teams and projects.
- Represent the Investment Applications team and participate in RFP and due diligence processes.
- Collaborate and co-ordinate with technology architects and IT partners with design and architecture decisions.
- Design solutions with a forward-thinking approach to best accommodate future opportunities in IMCO’s growing environment
- Ensure adherence to IMCO’s processes, procedures, and the supportability of all solutions with proper documentation and training
- Create change management strategies and processes to ensure all environments, systems and vendors changes, security and access are tracked
What do you need to succeed?
- Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline with a minimum of 15 years of experience in the asset management or investment industry.
- Experience in leading cross-functional, multi layered teams in an investment IT organization.
- Direct working experience in Investment Management, Operations, Risk or Performance teams with a focus on Private Markets investment activities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of investment workflows and trading lifecycle with experience creating and implementing strategies to support.
- Demonstrated experience creating systems analysis and technical solutions frameworks and aligning with the broader IT strategies.
- Knowledge of solution development life cycles, including planning, requirement, analysis, design, build, testing, implementation, and post-implementation activities.
- Well-versed and experienced in agile and waterfall processes.
- Excellent communication skills, and ability to communicate comfortably with both business and technical teams.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Familiar with managed cloud services is an asset.
- Demonstrated support experience in investment management, risk, investment operations, performance or data team is preferred.
- Prior system implementation leadership experiences such as portfolio management and analytical systems, order management systems, data warehouse, and research platforms.
- Domain knowledge in IT service management such as incident management, change management, configuration management and operations management.
- Prior involvement with third-party vendors, internal and external operational audits.
- CFA, CBAP, PMI-PBA, CSC, Lean and/or Six Sigma, or PMP designation is an asset.
- Experience with Private Markets technology systems (including portfolio Management) highly desirable.
- A strong technical background in data solutions and/or application development to effectively partner, communicate and understand systems designs with the development team, and IT architecture team.
