About this Role

The Executive in the Financial Services Development Impact team at BII will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality impact management within the Financial Services Group. This position requires leading the impact management efforts, particularly for the Debt product, and potentially contributing to other products like Equity, Intermediated Financial Services, and Trade & Supply Chain Finance. The role involves assessing development impact, working closely with investment teams, and actively managing investments to enhance their social and environmental impact. The candidate will be expected to collaborate across various teams and manage sector-specific relationships to ensure consistent communication and implementation of impact strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering impact management for the relevant part of the portfolio.
  • Assessing development impact as part of the due diligence process.
  • Working seamlessly with investment team colleagues to inform investment decision-making.
  • Developing a high-quality development impact dashboard for each investment.
  • Liaising with other Impact Group teams during the investment process.
  • Defining the monitoring plan pre-investment and collecting impact metrics.
  • Assessing how investments are performing against their initial development objectives.
  • Actively managing investments to enhance the impact.
  • Developing and delivering impact strategies and tools.
  • Representing development impact in relevant meetings.
  • Engaging with investees on impact management activities.

Requirements

  • Strong work experience in a relevant field, preferably as an impact manager.
  • Knowledge of the financial services sector.
  • Strong academic credentials, preferably a Master’s degree in economics or an MBA.
  • Work experience in developing countries, preferably in Africa and/or South Asia.
  • Practical understanding of impact management and private sector development.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Self-starter with a bias for action and problem-solving approach.
  • Proven capability of effective teamwork and strong stakeholder management.
  • Willingness to travel regularly, mostly within Africa and South Asia.
