About this Role

The ClimateWorks Foundation is seeking a Director for the Global Energy Transition Initiative (GETI), a role that will play a critical role in driving a global transition from coal to clean energy that aligns with the global 1.5°C pathway. This position is part of a highly collaborative environment involving partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies and various other global and in-country partners. Since its inception in late 2017, the GETI has worked to overcome economic, political, technical, and social challenges in shifting away from coal to clean energy in 32 economies spanning Asia, Africa, South America, and the European Union. The initiative’s strategies have expanded from increasing climate ambition and capital mobilization to implementing coal-to-clean energy transitions. The successful candidate will have opportunities to shape and implement country-specific coal phase-out and clean energy transition pathways, leverage international and regional initiatives to scale-up clean energy investments, support open-source data and policy research, and mobilize both public and private finance in coal to clean energy transitions.

Responsibilities

  • Shape and implement robust country-specific coal phase-out and clean energy transition pathways in line with the global 1.5° C scenario.
  • Leverage international and regional initiatives to scale-up clean energy investments and end new coal pipelines.
  • Support the advancement of open-source data, policy research, and analytics to inform and empower the energy community and strengthen countries’ and non-state actors’ net-zero accountability.
  • Mobilize public and private finance in coal to clean energy in emerging economies and developing countries, in partnership with multilateral development banks and net-zero aligned private financial sector stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in energy transition initiatives, particularly in moving from coal to clean energy.
  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Extensive experience in working with global and in-country partners to drive climate solutions.
  • Background in public policy, economic and social analysis, and strategic philanthropy would be beneficial.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to work in a mission-driven organization focused on ending the climate crisis.
  • Engage with high-impact global initiatives and leading experts in the field.
  • Play a key role in shaping and advancing climate solutions on a global scale.
  • Collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Comprehensive benefits package (specifics not mentioned in source, please consult ClimateWorks Foundation directly for details).
