About this Role
The Chief of Ventures at Acumen plays a critical role in managing and expanding Acumen’s diverse investment portfolio, which is expected to exceed $700 million over the next two years. This leader will oversee both the impact funds and philanthropically backed investments, ensuring alignment with Acumen’s mission to address poverty through innovative business solutions. Key responsibilities include managing financial assets, enhancing investment performance, and facilitating collaboration among managing directors. The role also involves implementing strategic initiatives, mentoring fund managers, and contributing to the development of Acumen’s investment philosophy. Additionally, the Chief of Ventures will interact with teams across legal, finance, talent, insights, impact, and fundraising to ensure robust portfolio management and meaningful change.
Responsibilities
- Oversee financial assets and enhance investment performance.
- Facilitate collaboration among managing directors.
- Implement strategic initiatives and provide strategic counsel.
- Mentor fund managers and ensure adherence to Acumen’s investment principles.
- Support managing directors in demonstrating the impact of strategic investments on poverty alleviation.
- Collaborate with various teams to ensure robust portfolio management.
- Analyze, monitor, and manage Acumen’s limited partnership investments.
- Evaluate the performance of sponsored fund management teams.
- Mentor fund managers and ensure adherence to Acumen’s investment principles.
- Act as a fiduciary for Acumen’s commitments to various entities.
- Develop a dashboard for real-time performance metrics.
- Contribute to the development of Acumen’s investment philosophy and strategic direction.
Requirements
- 15+ years in the investment sector, with at least 10 years in venture capital or private equity.
- Prior experience investing or managing assets for impact is beneficial.
- Alignment with Acumen’s mission, investment principles, and values.
- Demonstrable experience overseeing the full investment lifecycle.
- Creative financial acumen to support innovative fund structures.
- Operational excellence in documentation, data analytics, and reporting.
- Lived or professional experience in geographical proximity to the regions where Acumen invests (Africa and/or India preferred).
- Clear and principled communication with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
