About Aceli Africa
Aceli Africa is a nonprofit market incentive facility dedicated to promoting private sector lending in the agricultural sector across specific African countries. With funding and support from major international donors such as the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and USAID, Aceli aims to mobilize $1.5 billion for agricultural small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia by 2029. The initiative operates by providing financial incentives designed to enhance the risk tolerance of financial institutions, consequently fostering a more competitive loan market for agri-SMEs. Since its launch in September 2020, Aceli has facilitated over 2,800 loans to SMEs, impacting more than one million smallholder farmers. Besides financial incentives, Aceli offers technical assistance and capacity-building services to both lenders and high-potential SMEs, bolstering their ability to manage financing and stimulate market linkages.
