ImpactAlpha, May 22 – Austin-based Interplay Learning’s platform provides training on dozens of trade skills including HVAC, electrical, energy auditing, solar installations, manufacturing, and construction using virtual reality and 3D simulations.

S3 Ventures led the firm’s $5.5 million Series A equity round. Shasta Ventures, Sierra Ventures, Holt Ventures, Wild Basin Investments, and Shelter Capital Partners also participated.

“The content really engages our junior technicians, so they actually use it and can see a clear path on how to grow their technical skills,” said Robyn Hass, of Core Mechanical, an Interplay client. “This means we can hire for attitude and train for skill.”

Interplay offers firms monthly and annual pricing, and says it’s growing its user based 40% month-over-month. With the funding, the firm plans to expand to new industries and developing new platform features.
