From transactions to trust: Building LP-GP alignment for deeper impact

“The world is experiencing seismic changes, especially here in the US. Many of the systems we’ve relied on are being upended,” says SOCAP Global president Robert Munson. “Whether you see that as a challenge or an opportunity, it demands bold thinking.”

These upheavals demand deeper, values-aligned partnerships. That is the idea behind Capital Connections Day at this year’s annual SOCAP flagship conference.

Instead of simply accelerating deal flow, Capital Connections Day slows the conversation down. It offers space for LPs and GPs to engage in honest, values-forward dialogue—free from high-stakes pitches and performative networking. “SOCAP is where these conversations go deeper, not just to name problems, but to design solutions. That’s what we’re here for,” says Munson.

Why does this matter now?

Too often, we attend events filled with big ideas and promising connections—but leave without real momentum. For LPs, that might look like hearing compelling pitches without gaining clarity on who is ready for partnership. For GPs, it’s the struggle to find capital partners who not only “get it” but who are ready to commit and co-create new models of investment rooted in trust and long-term vision. In short, the right people are in the room, but the connections people want to make aren’t happening.

Meanwhile, investors are looking for values-aligned partnerships that can move capital in ways that match the urgency and complexity of today’s global challenges. They recognize that deep alignment on outcomes, timelines and lived values is critical to both performance and impact integrity.

The next era of impact investing requires more than capital deployment. It demands partnership, including with participation beyond the current cast of players. We need more people, companies, and governments meaningfully engaged.

We can only move at the speed of trust

Capital Connections Day invites LPs to go beyond due diligence and into discovery, asking questions like: Who is building the future you want to fund? What does shared risk, mutual learning and trust look like in practice? And for GPs, it’s a rare chance to meet LPs who are not only capital allocators, but thought partners—investors who understand that catalytic capital requires catalytic relationships.

For the second year in a row, we are also providing a dedicated matchmaking service for attendees powered by the Impact Capital Exchange. It enables LPs and GPs to identify alignment based on investment thesis, impact strategy, and stage of capital.

Most importantly, this platform ensures follow-through. Too often, GPs invest time and energy into conversations that go nowhere. Instead, we are creating mutual accountability: LPs who express interest are expected to engage meaningfully, creating a clear feedback loop and setting a new standard for transparency and responsiveness. It’s not just about making connections—it’s about honoring them.

While LP-GP alignment is a core focus, Capital Connections Day is intentionally designed as a gathering space for all actors across the capital spectrum—from catalytic grantmakers and philanthropic institutions to venture philanthropists, DFIs, family offices, entrepreneur support organizations, and social entrepreneurs.

We recognize that systemic change doesn’t happen in silos, and the future of impact investing depends on collaboration across roles, sectors, and strategies. This day is about creating a shared space where changemakers can engage openly, build trust, and explore how their unique contributions intersect to advance a more just and regenerative economy.

We’re not suggesting that one day can transform the system. But it can shift the dynamic. It can set a tone. When LPs and GPs come together in a space designed not for extraction but for connection, the foundation for transformational capital is laid.

And we believe this is the work: building a community where attendees leave not just with contacts but with clarity, purpose, and relationships that carry forward into the kind of collaboration the world urgently needs.
