About the fund
The Renewable Energy Fund, launched in 2024 and managed by Old Mutual, invests in renewable energy infrastructure across Zimbabwe, with a primary focus on solar, hydropower, biomass, and battery storage projects. The fund has raised approximately $45 million toward its target capitalization of $100 million and is currently in active fundraising. It accepts commitments from both institutional and retail investors, domestic and international, targeting projects that address Zimbabwe's energy security and climate resilience objectives. Representative investments include utility-scale solar installations serving agricultural and commercial offtakers, such as a 10-megawatt solar facility developed for a dairy producer in northeastern Zimbabwe. The fund addresses material infrastructure gaps in Southern Africa while generating renewable energy capacity and measurable environmental impact aligned with climate sustainability outcomes.
