The Pioneer Facility is a validated, scalable impact investment fund managed by Nexus for Development. It is designed to fill the “missing middle” financing gap for early-growth stage climate enterprises in Southeast Asia and Bangladesh. The facility addresses this critical funding gap through unsecured debt financing, ranging from $100,000 to $1,000,000, with flexible terms. The facility supports companies with at least two years of operations that deliver measurable environmental and social impact, and operate in clean energy, water access, waste management, and sustainable agriculture. The facility also incorporates a gender lens, with a commitment of 40% of funds disbursed to go to organizations that meet the 2X Challenge criteria. To date, the fund has disbursed $4.07 million across 11 loans in 6 countries and maintained a 0% default rate. By providing uncollateralized working capital and CAPEX loans, the Pioneer Facility enables high-potential climate enterprises to scale, proving their creditworthiness for later-stage commercial investors. This is evidenced by its catalytic leverage ratio: portfolio companies have gone on to raise over $43 million in follow-on capital from institutional and impact investors, demonstrating a 10x multiplier effect.
