About the fund

The Financial Instrument for Climate Justice is a catalytic blended finance facility domiciled in Brazil that provides concessional debt capital to cooperatives and community enterprises led by Indigenous and Quilombola communities in the Amazon and other bioeconomy-focused regions. Launched at COP30 in Belém by Climate Ventures in partnership with Sitawi, BMW Foundation, Fundo Vale, Institute for Climate and Society, and Fundação Grupo Boticário, the facility targets an initial capitalization of USD 3 million to USD 5 million with plans to deploy capital across three investments in the first half of 2026. The fund addresses working capital and equipment financing gaps for community-led enterprises while integrating technical assistance and complementary philanthropic funding for enabling infrastructure such as water and energy access. The facility's investment thesis emphasizes climate action, community ownership, and natural resources conservation, positioning itself as a mechanism to align financial returns with measurable climate and social outcomes in Latin America and the Caribbean. The fund is currently in fundraising and welcomes capital from development finance institutions and foundations.
