About this Role

The Schmidt Family Foundation is seeking an experienced Portfolio Manager for its Impact Investing Program. This role is integral to building a strategic portfolio that aligns with the foundation’s goals in sustainable agriculture, energy, human rights, and marine conservation. The Portfolio Manager will work closely with a team of investment professionals to drive impactful investment decisions, focusing on alternatives to single-use plastics, circular economy innovations, and textiles. The successful candidate will blend passion and expertise in impact-first investments to support the foundation’s mission of creating measurable, sustainable progress.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and refine a portfolio strategy focused on materials, including alternatives to single-use plastics.
  • Source and evaluate potential investment opportunities with detailed due diligence and financial analysis.
  • Manage the investment process from origination to post-investment support and monitoring.
  • Oversee portfolio cash flows and financial reporting.
  • Engage and expand a network within materials, packaging, and textiles fields.
  • Craft investment terms that align with impact-first goals.
  • Present investment recommendations to the Investment Committee.
  • Collaborate with grantmaking teams to ensure programmatic alignment with investments.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in investing, particularly in early-stage companies.
  • Expertise in materials innovation, the circular economy, or textiles.
  • Strong financial modeling skills and analytical acumen.
  • Effective communicator with a commitment to social impact.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
