About this Role

The Vice President of Finance and Administration at the Great Lakes Protection Fund will be a key strategic leader within the organization, overseeing financial, administrative, and operational aspects. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this role involves managing a robust endowment to fuel the Fund’s mission, ensuring financial strategies align with long-term goals. The position requires hands-on management and strategic foresight, aiming to maintain organizational excellence and foster a supportive, innovative work environment. The Vice President will be integral in driving operational efficiencies, leading talent development, and ensuring compliance across all departments. Responsibilities

  • Align financial strategy with the organization’s environmental mission.
  • Manage the endowment, ensuring risk, return, and performance align with goals.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and audits.
  • Collaborate with the Board’s Finance Committee and investment advisors.
  • Oversee HR, compliance, IT, and risk management.
  • Ensure efficient and resilient operational systems.
  • Lead and mentor the operations team to foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • A decade or more of finance and investment experience.
  • Preferably CPA or CFA credential.
  • Expertise in endowment management and financial reporting.
  • Proven track record in making financial recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Passion for mission-driven work, particularly in environmental contexts.
  • Experience in environmental or mission-driven organizations is a plus.
  • Background in public accounting or small-business operations is desirable.
