Affordable housing. Infinity Real Estate Partners scored a $18.7 million equity investment from American South Real Estate Partners to acquire and renovate over 1,000 affordable housing units in the Carolinas.
Agrifood investing. Banyu nabbed $1.3 million to boost Indonesian seaweed farmings… Pluralize Capital invested in Boulder, Colo.-based Mad Capital, which provides flexible debt financing to transition family-owned farms from conventional to organic agriculture… The Livelihood Impact Fund invested in Tanzania’s MazaoHub Agclimate to provide farming data and precision agriculture advisory services to smallholder farmers.
Blue economy. Ireland’s XOCEAN raised €115 million ($118 million) from Climate Investment, Morgan Stanley’s 1GT fund and others to expand its fleet of unmanned surface marine vessels that collect ocean data for offshore wind developers and marine protection agencies.
Energy transition. Amazon Climate Pledge Fund and Voyager Ventures led a $15 million Series A round for Moment Energy, a Vancouver-based startup that repurposes retired EV batteries for energy storage… Bees & Bears raised €500 million to help German households finance the installment of solar panels, heat pumps, energy storage systems and wall boxes to improve home energy efficiency… DOE’s Loan Programs Office injected $1.2 billion for clean energy in Puerto Rico.
Fund news. Impaqto Capital closed first fund to invest in Andean impact startups… Italy’s Algebris Investments raised €60 million for its first fund to invest in climate tech startups in Europe. The “deep green” SFDR Article 9 fund was backed by CDP Venture Capital and several Italian pension funds.
Green infrastructure. Generate Capital financed green steel, with co-investment from CalSTRS and HESTA… SUSI Partners landed $139 million for energy transition infrastructure in Southeast Asia.
Inclusive finance. Citi provided a $10 million loan to Paraguay’s Banco Familiar to on-lend to small businesses in the country… Inua Capital, a Kampala-based impact fund manager that provides equity to Uganda’s small businesses, invested in Flow Uganda to extend credit to micro-enterprises.
Investing in health. Enable Ventures backed Be My Eyes to develop AI applications for the blind… Kenyan startup Ilara Healthcare, which provides diagnostic equipment, pharmaceuticals and other essential offerings to small, private clinics, received a $1 million loan from the US International Development Finance Corp.
Low-carbon transition. London-based BeZero Carbon raised $32 million in a funding round led by Temasek’s GenZero decarbonization investment group to build out its carbon credits platform… Origen Power clinched $13 million in Series A financing, backed by Barclays Climate Ventures, Shell Ventures and Elemental Impact, for its direct air capture systems that use limestone to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
