ImpactAlpha, October 21 — Roughly 250,000 retail investors are funding startups and small businesses online each month. That trend has spurred fundraising for crowdfunding platforms like New York-based Republic.

The equity crowdfunding playform has raised $150 million in a round led by Valor Equity Partners. Returning investors Galaxy Interactive and Motley Fool Ventures and new investors including Pillar VC and Brevan Howard also participated.

The new round follows $36 million that the company raised in March.

Republic has facilitated over $700 million in investments for more than 600 companies.
