About this Role
Builders Vision is seeking a Vice President of Investments to join the investment team for Builders Initiative, the philanthropic arm of Builders Vision. This role involves supporting investments in private impact funds and early-stage start-ups, primarily focusing on the Energy Transition portfolio. The candidate will work closely with senior staff internally and across various partner organizations, involving underwriting and monitoring of investments. Responsibilities will include due diligence planning, sector-related research, investment pipeline management, and active ongoing monitoring of the energy portfolio. The Vice President will also collaborate on special investment projects and contribute significantly to communication and presentation materials concerning investment and impact analysis.
Responsibilities
- Develop due diligence plans with direction and oversight from senior colleagues.
- Generate and lead sector-related research to identify high-impact investment opportunities.
- Manage the investment pipeline and related activities.
- Collaborate with Energy team members on investment due diligence, including both quantitative and qualitative analysis of impact fund managers and early-stage direct investments.
- Work closely with Builders Vision’s Impact Measurement & Management (IMM) team to develop and implement IMM frameworks aligned with impact goals.
- Produce written and presentation materials to communicate investment and impact analysis to stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Conduct market research, industry landscaping, and portfolio construction analyses under the direction of senior colleagues.
- Support special investment projects such as thematic impact investment landscapes or program-related investments done in partnership with foundation program officers.
- Take an active role in ongoing monitoring for the Energy portfolio, including collecting and reviewing regular financial and impact reporting, conducting regular check-in calls/meetings with investees, and attending annual meetings for managers.
- Develop mastery of BIIT and BV tools, systems, and processes.
- Collaborate with and support the success of other BIIT and BV Associates.
Requirements
- 6-10 years of work experience in investment-focused roles (funds or strategics), investment banking, or consulting.
- Underwriting experience in various investment structures (equity, project financing, etc.).
- Demonstrated interest in the energy sector and impact investing.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
- University degree with a record of high achievement; preference for technical/STEM or liberal arts backgrounds.
- MBA or CFA charter preferred.
- Mastery of business tools such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with database/CRM tools.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Creative approach to deal structuring and strategy designing.
- Strong collaboration and mentorship skills.
- Comfortable with public speaking roles internally and externally.
