About this Role

The Vice Chancellor for Sustainability (VCS) plays a pivotal role in advancing CU Boulder’s position as a global leader in sustainability solutions. Reporting directly to the Chancellor, the VCS will direct all university sustainability efforts while enhancing CU Boulder’s global reputation in this field. This position demands an individual capable of integrating diverse sustainability practices into the university’s strategic planning, facilitating partnerships with national and global entities, and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship on campus. The VCS will work collaboratively with various university departments to ensure the successful implementation of sustainability initiatives and raise awareness of CU Boulder’s sustainability goals both internally and externally.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance CU Boulder’s influence as a global leader in sustainability.
  • Manage and coordinate campus-wide sustainability partnerships and academic collaborations.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to support university sustainability goals.
  • Build partnerships with external entities to promote sustainable practices.
  • Pursue funding opportunities for sustainability initiatives.
  • Model competence and confidence in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in sustainability.
  • Report on the university’s progress towards sustainability goals.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of sustainability challenges and state, federal, and global sustainability research.
  • Advanced degree in a sustainability-related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership and managerial experience.
  • Proven record in partnership development and fundraising.
  • Exceptional communication skills across diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in sustainability efforts.
