About this Role

BlackRock Real Estate is seeking a Director to lead on sustainable investing across its global investment platform. Based in London, this position will play a key role in partnering with BlackRock’s Real Estate teams globally to develop and implement sustainable investing and transition strategies. This includes the advancement of sustainability throughout investment processes and asset management activities. This role will also guide sustainability reporting, benchmarking, and regulatory compliance for BlackRock’s Real Estate platform, and support client engagement, fundraising, research, and product strategy initiatives. The individual will need to work closely with sustainability leads across Equity Private Markets and BlackRock’s wider sustainability and investment teams. BlackRock is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual interested in working in a fast-paced, international environment as a member of a closely-knit team in the alternative investment industry. A passion for sustainable real estate, sustainable investing, and a strong analytical and project management skillset are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of sustainable and transition investing strategies across BlackRock’s global Real Estate platform
  • Lead the integration of environmental, social, and governance criteria in investment processes
  • Develop ESG questionnaires, processes, and tools to support the integration of sustainability considerations
  • Partner with global Real Estate teams and consultants to coordinate environmental performance data management and analysis
  • Establish asset-level and portfolio-level sustainability performance objectives, targets, and key performance indicators
  • Provide guidance to investment teams on asset-specific sustainability projects
  • Contribute to product strategy and research across BlackRock’s Real Estate and Equity Private Markets platforms
  • Manage and submit investment portfolios to sustainability benchmarks
  • Oversee compliance with relevant sustainability regulatory requirements
  • Support client engagement activities such as fundraising and capital raising
  • Coordinate responses for sustainability-related RFPs, DDQs, and other client requests
  • Develop sustainability-related client materials and case studies
  • Represent BlackRock Real Estate in industry groups and at external conferences
  • Partner with sustainability leads across Equity Private Markets and BlackRock’s wider sustainability and investment teams

Requirements

  • Strong academic background with a relevant undergraduate degree in finance, economics, real estate, environmental science, or sustainability management
  • MBA and/or other advanced degree is helpful
  • 10+ years’ relevant industry experience in real estate and sustainable investing
  • A deep existing network in sustainable real estate
  • Understanding of current and forthcoming sustainability regulations
  • Experience with green building certifications and energy ratings
  • Strong leadership, management, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Operational experience and technical knowledge of property management
  • Attention to detail and a process-oriented approach
  • Proven project management and organizational skills
  • Polished written and oral communication skills
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to assume additional responsibilities
