About this Role

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Director to join our sales and marketing team. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of building an institutional investor pipeline and converting prospects to clients in investment advisory and/or asset management businesses. A passion for impact investments is essential. The Business Development Director will be based in San Francisco, California, and report to the Chief Growth Officer. This senior role will primarily be responsible for growing Sonen’s relationships with $50M+ endowments, foundations, and family offices globally. The role requires a deep understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by such institutions and impact investment advisory.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a complete understanding of Sonen’s investment services, processes, and philosophy and passionately articulate the firm’s capabilities with internal and external constituents.
  • Build and grow the pipeline of prospective clients across endowments, foundations, and family offices globally.
  • Lead and support sales efforts, including prospect research, identification, and qualification, presentation strategy, content development, and participation in investor pitches and RFPs.
  • Grow revenue and convert prospects to clients by managing the sales cycle and workflow diligently, updating and managing the CRM system, and running and analyzing reports.
  • Develop relationships and engage with Centers of Influence (COIs) to generate new leads.
  • Contribute to the development of thought leadership and other marketing content, including providing strategic guidance on branding, messaging, and positioning to enhance Sonen’s visibility and reputation in the market.
  • Identify and participate in relevant industry events to build brand and pipeline.
  • Be a team player, working collaboratively with colleagues in business development, investments, compliance, finance, and operations.
  • Take ownership of the quality and timeliness of all work products and initiatives to improve productivity and results.
  • Contribute to business development strategic planning and execution.
  • Anticipate market trends, market needs, industry changes, and competitive intel, and suggest adaptations as needed.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success in building investor pipelines and converting prospects to clients.
  • In-depth knowledge of endowments, foundations, and family offices.
  • Good understanding of investment and asset allocation concepts and the impact investment management industry.
  • Outstanding communications and writing skills.
  • Out-going, proactive, and confident personality.
  • Ability to operate independently with a high level of responsibility while partnering effectively with the team.
  • Experience with CRM.
  • Strong command of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
