J.D. Vance has joined AOL founder Steve Case’s billion-dollar Revolution LLC to invest in companies in U.S. states that attract little venture capital.

Vance is the author of “Hillbilly Elegy,” a look at the economic and cultural plight of America’s white working class.

The former marine and Yale Law School graduate just moved back to Ohio (where some think he has a political future).

“My metric for success is do we elevate the conversation and bring attention to these ecosystems, and in the process do we close the capital and jobs gaps?” he told The Wall Street Journal.

The Gates Foundation’s Nick O’Donohoe is the new CEO of CDC Group, the U.K. development finance agency, where he will invest in businesses and jobs in Africa and South Asia.

O’Donohoe joined the Gates Foundation in 2015 as a senior advisor; prior to that he co-founded the U.K.’s Big Society Capital, dubbed the “the world’s first social investment bank.”
