This role will be part of Shell’s global Social Investment (SI) team. Social Investment in Shell is part of Social Performance (SP). Where you fit in
The overall objective of Social Performance is to create a positive presence and legacy in the communities and countries in which we operate and to be a trusted and responsible neighbour. You will be part of our Social Performance Expert Team, empowered to support colleagues in countries and assets by offering deep expertise in managing social risks and impacts and delivering community benefits programmes (Social Investment). The team maintains oversight of current and emerging SP opportunities and risks, ensures that Shell has competent staff to deal with these and enables communication about our performance in this area, both internally and externally.
In this role you will work closely with colleagues across multiple countries to design Social Investment programmes, provide pragmatic and hands-on implementation support where needed, and help measure the outcomes of our programmes. You will also work with Corporate Relations colleagues to oversee the development and execution of global external and internal communications initiatives about these social investment activities.
What is the role?
In this role, you will:
- Support implementation in countries:
Support country Social Investment teams with scoping, designing, and planning Social Investment programmes as needed, in particular for projects and organisations where there is limited in-country resourcing. This would include support during the full cycle of the programme, including local need assessment, feasibility studies, programme design (including monitoring and evaluation framework), selection of suitable implementation partners, and ongoing support during implementation where needed.
- Help plan for country disaster donations:
Support country teams with disaster relief donations which forms a key component of our social investment contributions.
- Advice on volunteering and small grants programmes:
Support design of employee volunteering and small grant programmes
- Support colleagues on ethics and compliance processes:
Support country teams with compliance processes related to social investment
- Co-ordinate the Social Investment Network:
Build an engaged community of practice for social investment that provides a platform for sharing knowledge and best practices, enables peer to peer learning.
- Support communication
of social impact delivered from Shell’s social investment activities, for both internal and external stakeholders.
What we need from you
When it comes to successfully supporting local Social Investment implementation, it’s your ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, your understanding of implementation realities and ability to find pragmatic solutions in driving delivery on the ground that will make the difference. You will build strong internal networks and be a trusted advisor and ally to your colleagues, leverage your knowledge of designing and delivering community programmes to drive focus on impactful and sustainable social investment.
The following requirements are essential:
- Qualifications relevant to international development
- Significant years of experience in developing and implementing community development programmes, with direct experience working with communities. Experience working in multiple geographies will be an advantage
- Demonstrable track record in developing and implementing monitoring and evaluation programmes and social impact measurement
In addition, you will have:
- Experience working in or with private sector organisations / large corporates
- Ability to work across organizational boundaries and influence without formal authority
- Experience working with a wide range of partner organisations (public, private and non-govermental)
- Strong communication (written and verbal), presentation and facilitation skills
- Experience managing networks and leading internal engagements
- Excellent project/programme management skills
- Excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills
- Knowledge and experience of compliance processes will be an advantage
- Learner mindset – role model curiosity and reflection, encourage people to learn from mistakes and successes
