About this Role
Plus Power is looking to hire a Senior AP Accountant (Specialist) to join the company’s accounting team. The ideal candidate will have prior renewable energy, development, or construction experience and the ability to take the initiative in completing tasks in a time-sensitive and high-quality manner. This role includes significant responsibilities and room for growth within the company. The Senior Accounts Payable Specialist will be responsible for processing large volumes of A/P invoices, interacting with vendors, setting up new vendors in the ERP system, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The position also involves producing periodic financial reports, managing external relationships, and supporting budgeting and forecasting processes.
Responsibilities
- Process large volumes of A/P invoices through Stampli for proper approval, supporting documentation, general ledger coding, data entry, payment processing, discrepancies, and implement solutions related to vendor accounts.
- Compare vendor terms with activity periodically to ensure the most cost and time-effective methods and timing of payments are being used.
- Provide assistance concerning invoices and payments to other subsidiaries and related companies as needed.
- Interact with vendors regularly and internal team for Bank Instructions (ACH, Wires, BillPay) & W9 information including vendor phone bank confirmations.
- Setup new vendors in ERP NetSuite – New ERP system and Bank platform.
- Identify and file use tax returns as needed with states and local agencies.
- Lead 1099 processing.
- Assist with compliance issues around accounts payable processes (W-9, sales and use tax, etc.).
- Act as a liaison between Plus Power and vendors (over 300+ vendors) regarding billing and payments.
- Review and confirm approval of all project-related expenses. Work closely with project management team to process invoices and ensure invoices are paid in a timely manner.
- Update, verify and maintain accounting journals and ledgers and other financial records. Ensure compliance with project contract accounting requirements and controls.
- Assist in producing periodic financial reports and ensure that the reported results comply with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Participate, as directed, in the management of external relationships including accounting firms, bank relationships, investors, insurance brokers, and bonding agents.
- Prepare journal entries related to accounts payable processed and ensure proper general ledger coding in support of monthly closings.
- Assist in the reconciliation of credit card charges on the Company cards.
- Reconcile the accounts payable ledger to ensure that all bills and payments are accounted for and properly posted.
- Generate reports detailing accounts payable status.
- Proactively work on initiatives to implement operational accounting efficiencies through process improvements and control enhancements.
- Assist with supplying documentation for annual audits, loan draws, etc.
- Support reporting to investors, as necessary.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes, as necessary.
- Develop and enforce effective and efficient internal controls to maximize protection of company assets and financial reporting policies, procedures, and workflow.
- Other projects as assigned.
Requirements
- BA/BS in Accounting or Finance, with an MBA or CPA desired.
- 4+ years’ experience in relevant work experience in accounting department.
- Current experience in Renewables/Power & Utilities or Construction, preferred.
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel along with macro-writing capabilities, pivot tables, and data queries.
- Working knowledge and experience with Stampli, NetSuite, or similar software.
- Strong organization and communication skills and ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail.
- High degree of business acumen, discretion, and professionalism.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and clients.
- Ability to work autonomously with little supervision while continuously ensuring alignment of company and department objective.
- Ability and desire to learn and take on responsibility quickly.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and deliver timely, high-quality results.
