About this Role

The Principal/Chief Investment Officer — FIG Capital Market will be an integral part of IFC’s global strategy to strengthen the capital markets in emerging markets and developing countries. The role involves identifying and scaling new investment opportunities, managing a growing portfolio, and leading the global transactions with regional FIG teams. The candidate must demonstrate significant market and transaction experience, with a focus on capital markets and structured finance, to deliver long-term sustainable development impacts. The position is based in Washington, DC, and reports to the Manager, CFGCM.

Responsibilities

  • Help lead the Capital Markets team to achieve its objectives and ambitious plans for investment growth and development impact.
  • Collaborate closely with other Principal/Chief Investment Officers in CFGCM and FIG regional management in developing Capital Markets priorities, strategies, and products across IFC regions.
  • Develop a strong pipeline of high-quality investment opportunities in capital markets and structured finance through market trend anticipation and sector/country knowledge.
  • Focus on adding value to IFC’s clients, providing solutions to sector challenges, and achieving sustainable development impact.
  • Evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close new transactions, particularly innovative capital market structures and products, special purpose structures, securitizations, and risk transfers.
  • Work closely with the World Bank to establish priority areas for joint efforts.
  • Develop and implement internal requirements associated with a growing business line of sophisticated financial instruments.
  • Coordinate with other units including other Industry Departments, Risk, IFC Treasury, and others within IFC to ensure support for new business opportunities and efficient portfolio management.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, or related areas.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in finance with expertise in banking, financial institutions, and finance-related disciplines.
  • Strong experience and in-depth understanding of industry trends and regulations in capital markets.
  • Solid track record in sophisticated capital markets and structured finance transactions.
  • Good network of financial institutions, investment banks, and investors.
  • Strategic thinking ability.
  • Proven ability to mobilize private sector investors.
  • Exceptional financial and credit skills.
  • Good management skills with a track record of client relationship development and execution of engagements.
  • Ability to have difficult conversations and resolve conflicts.
  • Excellent negotiation and structuring skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent team player with mentoring abilities.
  • Capacity to deal with conflicting priorities and deliver high-quality work on schedule.
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills in English; Spanish is desirable.
  • Willingness to travel.
