Accordingly, we are growing our accounting team! Your primary role is to ensure our accounting systems are up to date, with a particular focus on our debt and equity portfolios in multiple investment funds. Your diligence with details will empower our team with clear and reliable financial information to support decision-making and provide our client partners with a terrific experience.

This role is great for you if you are eager and passionate about broadening your exposure to fund finance on a growing, mission-driven team. You are equally comfortable recording business income and expenses as you are tracking portfolio activity across multiple entities. You can easily leverage a wide variety of software and technology tools, and your Excel skills are ranked as “wizard.” You believe pennies count. You love a good process, and yet always look for ways it can be improved. A reconciled bank account gives you an overwhelming sense of joy.

This position is Remote within the United States. Our team is distributed across the US and works remotely.

Primary responsibilities
You will work primarily with our Controllers (your supervisor) and VP, Finance and Fund Operations. Often collaborating with our Manager, Client Operations, Fund Operations Associate, and Chief Legal Officer. You will be responsible for keeping records, maintaining ledgers, producing financial reports, preparing budgets, fund billing, and general bookkeeping.

  • Perform daily accounting processes including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger transactions in order to maintain accurate financial information in the QuickBooks accounting system for multiple investment fund entities (that are primarily debt funds).
  • Review, process, and pay vendor invoices ensuring documentation and approvals are received and that transactions have been coded and accounted for properly.
  • Prepare monthly / quarterly invoices for portfolio company fees, reimbursable expenses, and consulting fee engagements, manage status of the invoices, record related cash receipts and handle any inquiries.
  • Complete the month-end close process, including bank and other account reconciliations and preparation of financial statements and other management reports.
  • Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.
  • Maintain vendor records in electronic form, including all data required for 1099 reporting.
  • Support the firm’s internal and external audits
  • Support tax preparations in support of annual filings
  • Assist in the ad-hoc reporting, finance, operational data projects, and administrative tasks that support the finance and accounting function.

  • 4+ years of experience in an accounting role within an investment, banking, audit or private debt firm
  • A working understanding of GAAP
  • Strong attention to detail, document review, and proofreading skills
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with a professional demeanor in interactions
  • Proficiency in project management, encompassing planning, execution, and delivery to achieve project objectives effectively.
  • Ability to be adaptable and responsive in an evolving startup environment with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong comfort with and demonstrated ability to learn technology tools, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Suite, project management systems (Asana), and communication systems (Slack)

Preference for candidates that also have one or more of the following:

  • Exposure to, or deep interest in, (impact) investing; this might include experience working directly with nonprofits, social enterprises, philanthropic endeavors, or investment firms
  • Fluency in another language beyond English
  • Lived experience in our target investment communities, such as communities of color, Native or Indigenous, New American, veteran, low-to-moderate income, or other overlooked and underestimated populations

This is an Associate level role with an annual salary range of $67,000 – $85,000  per year, plus company incentives, based on your unique skills and experience.

It’s important to note that starting salaries for most candidates will fall at or below the 50th percentile of the above salary band. However, starting salaries will be determined based on factors such as qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
