About this Role
World Vision International is seeking an experienced Accountant to join their team in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In this role, you will handle various accounting operations, ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and support the organization’s financial health through diligent management of funds and compliance with relevant procedures. Key responsibilities involve handling project accounting operations, ensuring a precise general ledger, processing inter-company transactions, and providing managerial support on accounting matters. You will also be responsible for the application of accounting systems and controls, preparation of financial and accounting reports, risk reduction strategies, and compliance with both written and unwritten accounting policies. Additionally, the role includes participation in organizational services such as devotions and chapel activities.
Responsibilities
- Perform the project’s accounting operations and ensure financial integrity and accounting accuracy.
- Process inter-company transactions in compliance with transfer agreements.
- Monitor the general ledger, investment, grant, and advance accounts for outstanding balances.
- Provide support to the account manager on accounting matters.
- Minimize financial impacts related to cash flow, fund carryovers, and accounting.
- Apply accounting systems, processes, and controls for World Vision Haiti.
- Ensure that financial and accounting reports are correctly prepared and submitted on time.
- Provide accurate and timely monthly financial reports.
- Reconcile World Vision Haiti’s bank accounts.
- Implement mechanisms to reduce financial risks.
- Communicate World Vision Haiti’s accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
- Prepare tax reports in compliance with local laws.
- Collaborate with audit staff for annual independent audits.
- Adhere to World Vision’s policies and procedures and participate in devotional and chapel services.
Requirements
- Minimum of three years of combined experience in non-governmental organizations and non-profit enterprises.
- Experience with government grant regulations and financial reporting requirements.
- Licence in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Good knowledge of accounting software, preferably Sun System.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Technical expertise and supervision in management systems development, internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Practical knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment with multinational staff.
