Virginia’s new seed fund targets underrepresented entrepreneurs

  • Spurring tech entrepreneurship... Virginia Founders Fund, a partnership between the commonwealth and the nonprofit Center for Innovative Technology, is to spurs entrepreneurship in software, hardware and life sciences.
  • The fund’s first two investments… are in EdConnective, a training and coaching startup for teachers, and Status Identity, an enterprise security service.

Eight organizations share £2.1 million to train the UK workforce

  • Winners included... Open University for its online network engineering program and Bridgwater & Taunton College for its real and virtual reality “workplace simulations” for nuclear power station workers.
  • Other recipients included... non-profit National Numeracy, which helps adults build everyday math skills and consultancy Sara Dunn Associates for a care worker “micro-learning” initiative.

Redaptive raises $20 million for building energy efficiency-as-a-service

  • Size matters… Redaptive’s platform is designed for large property owners with millions of square feet of real estate holdings.
  • Energy savings… Redaptive has about $200 million in contracts in the works, which it says could save over 400 million kilowatt-hours of energy.
  • Real estate investor CBRE Group... led Redaptive’s $20 million funding round. ENGIE New Ventures, GXP Investments, and Linse Capital also participated.
